Chicago Midway International Airport is the second-largest commercial airport in the Chicago metro region. It’s located in the central suburbs of downtown, about 8 miles from the city center. Midway was the primary airport until O’Hare replaced the majority of its commercial traffic when it opened in 1955. MDW is also the second busiest airport in Illinois, with more than 22 million passengers in 2018.
