McClellan-Palomar is located 3 miles southwest of downtown Carlsbad. This north county airport is owned by San Diego County’s Airport Authority and offers limited commercial flights, private services, and general aviation. The Carlsbad location replaced an older county airport originally sited in Del Mar in the 1950s.
The single runway at CRQ is busy, with more than 145,000 aircraft movements in 2019. A single-runway airfield located four miles from the ocean, the flight plan takes you through neighborhoods with noise abatement procedures in place. Jets are flight limited from 11:00 PM to 7 AM, and quieter turboprops from 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM.
As previously mentioned, the runway at CRQ is a single one in a busy general aviation facility. There are three FBOs and a heliport terminal, in addition to the main terminal building for boutique flights and their passengers at McClellan-Palomar
SAN is surrounded by Carlsbad to the north, San Marcos, and Escondido to the east, while south are the communities of Encinitas, Rancho Sante Fe, Solana Beach, and Del Mar. The private jet facilities are located at sites surrounding the airport, including terminals, rental cars, limos, and town cars. Aircraft accommodations include refueling, ramps and hangars, helicopters, and U.S. Customs Service.
