London City Airport History

London City Airport opened in 1987. The airport site was initially a dockyard repurposed into a business district. Later, when the ports closed, the government decided to turn them into an airport to modernize the site. Prince Charles laid the airport terminal’s foundation stone, which opened in October 1987. Its first year of operations recorded 130,000 passengers.

London City Airport offers several different flight types. For example, the smallest aircraft permitted is the Cessna Citation, while the largest-approved plane is the Airbus A318.
