Kansas City International Airport is the largest commercial airport in the Kansas City metro region. It’s located on the northwest side of downtown, about 15 miles from the city center. MCI replaced commercial traffic at the Charles B Wheeler Downtown Airport (MKC); it’s now a primary airport for private jets and general aviation.
KMCI provides comprehensive FBO services at its single location and has U.S. Custom Services on-site. The MCI airfield covers over 10,000 acres and has three runways allowing for 139 aircraft movements per hour. MCI is a top-ranked airport with few delays due to its open-air and ground location, quick taxi time, and fewer closures and cancellations due to weather conditions. KMCI is the second-busiest airport after St. Louis Lambert International Airport for passenger traffic and flights in Missouri.
Opened in 1972, this airport has a long runway of 10,801 feet for large jets. There is one separate FBO terminal to welcome private jets and passengers, with a full complement of hanger and maintenance services available.
