The HondaJet family of aircraft is manufactured by the Honda Aircraft Company, based in Greensboro, North Carolina. Its mission is to provide commercial and business users with an affordable and reliable aviation solution. The company produces both commercial and private aircraft for business and government use—HondaJet’s known for its low operating costs, high fuel efficiency, and ease of maintenance.
The HondaJet is powered by two GE Honda HF 120 turbofan engines. The aircraft’s unique Over-the-Wing Engine Mount system reduces vibration for a quieter flight. Its carbon-composite fuselage is lighter and stronger than aluminum, allowing it to travel at higher altitudes and speeds while consuming less fuel.
HondaJet’s design and construction were influenced by more than 20 years of aviation research. Honda’s engineers designed the aircraft’s interior and exterior, as well as its wing and engine. This combination led to a fuel-efficient, high-quality aircraft with room for passengers and luggage. The company plans to deliver the first mass-produced HondaJet in 2010.
Currently, the HondaJet is undergoing certification and is being built at Honda Motor Company’s campus in Greensboro. The HondaJet is Honda’s first commercial airplane. The company has already received orders for over 100 units.
Honda has been the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer since 1959 and the world’s largest manufacturer of internal combustion engines measured by volume, producing more than 14 million internal combustion engines each year. In 2001, Honda became the second-largest Japanese automobile manufacturer.
