Gillespie Field

Gillespie Field is located 3 miles north of downtown El Cajon. Owned by San Diego County’s Airport Authority, this east county airport offers private jet services and general aviation flights. Named for Marine Lieutenant Archibald H. Gillespie, the original Marine Corps parachutist facility transitioned to a public airport in 1946.  The oldest, largest, and busiest of San Diego County general aviation airfields, they counted more than 225,000 aircraft movements in 2019.

This three-runway airport is located about 11 miles from downtown San Diego in the city of El Cajon. Like McClellan-Palomar , flight plans take you through neighborhoods with noise abatement procedures in place.  Jets are flight limited from 11:00 PM to 7 AM daily. 

As previously mentioned, Gillespie Field is a busy general aviation facility. There are four FBOs in addition to the main terminal building for private planes and their passengers at SEE.

SEE is surrounded by El Cajon, with Lakeside and Granite Hills to the east; traveling west is La Jolla, while south is San Diego, the communities of Rancho San Diego, and La Mesa. The private jet facilities are located at sites surrounding the airport , including terminals, rental cars, limos, and town cars. Aircraft accommodations include refueling, ramps and hangars, helicopters, maintenance, and avionics repair.
