San Diego is set on the Pacific Ocean coast in Southern California, adjacent to the Mexican border. The birthplace of California, San Diego, is known for its mild year-round climate, natural deep-water harbor, extensive beaches, U.S. Navy bases, and a healthcare and biotechnology development center.
Visitors to San Diego arrive to see the downtown harbor, Coronado Island Mission Beach, and La Jolla. Further north is Del Mar, Torrey Pines, Rancho Sante Fe, and Carlsbad. Private jet travelers use the San Diego International Airport and McClellan-Palomar Airport in the north county.
San Diego is the eighth-largest city in the United States and the second-largest city in California.
