Cancún is a city in southeastern Mexico, located on the northeast coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. Cancún is located just north of Mexico’s Caribbean coast resort region known as the Riviera Maya. It is a significant tourist destination in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo.
The city is located on the Caribbean, with its downtown known as El Centro and the Zona Hotelera, the beachfront strip of high-rise hotels. Other nearby resort areas are Playa del Carmen and Tulum, both south of the city of Cancun.
