General Aviation

KBLI serves as home for numerous scenic charters and private chartered flights, in addition to hosting scheduled airlines as a Port of Entry for domestic and international travelers. Like many airports across North America, Bellingham International Airport first began as a military facility before World War II and only then transitioned into civilian service as an airport. Harbor Air began providing nonstop shuttle service from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport using small Britten-Norman Islander twin prop aircraft in the late 1970s. At the same time, Western Airlines tried to establish a mini-hub at BLI with service to Ontario (ONT), Phoenix (PHX), and San Diego (SAN).

Car rental agencies and taxi services are also available at the airport for convenient transportation. Today, four airlines currently use BLI as a base. General aviation services, including flight instruction, jet charters, maintenance, and aircraft rental, also occur outside BLI.

About

Bellingham International Airport (BLI), situated in the Northwest U.S., is an essential gateway into Alaska and Canada. Initially established by the Works Progress Administration during New Deal-era work relief programs, BLI remains one of the busiest international airports today. Throughout the 1960s and 70s, several scheduled airlines made BLI their home. Still, it wasn’t until 1985 that Pacific Southwest Airlines introduced jetliner service between Los Angeles, San Diego, and other out-of-state destinations. Since that time, BLI has seen several carriers arrive. At present, four airlines provide regular scheduled flights from various locations directly into BLI.

Airport facilities

Bellingham International Airport (BLI), situated in Washington state and featuring one runway, may appear small initially. However, its surprising bustle cannot be underestimated; over half its passengers hail from Canada, as Bellingham is close to Vancouver. The third busiest commercial airport in Washinton State offers one FBO for private jets and passengers.
