An aircraft is a device that is able to fly by gaining support from the air or from the atmosphere of a planet. This flight action counters the force of gravity by using either static lift or by using the dynamic lift of an airfoil, or in a few cases the downward thrust from jet engines. Crewed aircraft are flown by an onboard pilot(s), but unmanned aerial vehicles like drones may be remotely controlled or self-controlled by computers. The specific business activity surrounding aircraft is called aviation.
