Mining industry upswing in use of business aircraft

Hangar8 Aviation is seeing a growing interest from mining and oil and gas companies looking to business aircraft and private aviation as a solution to complex travel needs.The increasing use of business aviation stems from the need to get senior executives to visit difficult and harder to reach mining and drilling locations.In the past three months, Hangar8’s charter business has seen an increase in inquiries from the mining sector of up to 25 per cent when compared to the same period last year.

Belgian private jet operator ASL and Schipol-headquartered JetNetherlands have marked an important milestone in their history by merging into a new holding company – JetNet Alliance Group.

Both companies specialize in business aviation charter and management. ASL, founded in 1997, currently has more than 20 business aircraft under management and JetNetherland’s fleet has grown steadily since 2001 to 14 aircraft.

With the merger, the new group will seek to expand opportunities, pursue the optimization of resources and know-how, and lay the foundations for further expansion in Europe.

ASL founder and director, Philippe Bodson, commented, “If you want to continue in this market, you have to constantly move along and anticipate future developments. Deer Jet, China’s largest private aviation services provider, opened its newest base at Changsha Huanghua International Airport in Hunan Province. Funded jointly by the company and Hunan Airport Economic Development, the facility occupies nearly 108,000 sq ft and includes a lounge and a customer parking lot. The FBO handled its first flight on May 31, but it will service only Deer Jet flights until its official opening next May, according to a company spokesperson.
