The business aviation community came together last night in support of the Corporate Angel Network (CAN), the industry charity that arranges for cancer patients to fly to treatment in empty seats on business aircraft. At this year’s NBAA-CAN Soiree in Orlando, attendees participated in both a silent and live auction. JetOptions is a member of NBAA and attended the function. Among the prizes were an Orlando family vacation package donated by Embraer, which included a round-trip flight in a Phenom 300 from anywhere in the U.S. or Canada, and a tour of NASA’s Johnson Space Center with Apollo astronaut Gene Cernan, including air travel, provided by Bombardier. While each of those packages garnered $29,000 for CAN, the most anticipated auction of the night was for a Gogo Biz ATG 5000 airborne Internet equipment package donated by Aircell. After a round of spirited bidding, the package sold for $73,000 to an aircraft owner who will install the high-speed communications unit in a Falcon 900; the work will be performed by West Star Aviation. Through the auctions and donations, the evening earned more than $371,000 for the charity, up by $150,000 from the previous two years, according to CAN executive director Peter Fleiss.
