Rupert Murdoch BBJ Listed for Sale: ‘Make Offer’

News Corp./News America chief Rupert Murdoch Boeing Business Jet was recently listed for sale, not long after AIN’s page-one story on the sybaritic wanderings of the airplane and the hypocrisy of the proprietor of The Wall Street Journal. That newspaper had put business aviation in its crosshairs early this year, beginning with an “exposé” in its February 14 edition of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s private-airplane travels, and it escalated the campaign as the year progressed, naming names and destinations and putting an airplane-tracking database on its website. Purchased on May 23, 2000, BBJ S/N 30070 N889NC is a one-owner airplane with 1,483 cycles and 4,101 hours on the airframe and both engines. The APU has logged 3,080 hours/2,749 cycles since new. The airplane is shown as being available immediately, “make an offer.” Wells Fargo Bank Northwest of Salt Lake City is the registered owner. Among the airplane’s amenities: Pats auxiliary fuel tanks (dual forward, five aft), cabin therapeutic oxygen outlets, master bedroom with queen-size bed, master lav with shower, aft lav with full-size shower, 200-gallon water system with 34-gallon hot water tank, IWG sterilizer and cabin humidification, and BlackBerry-on-Board. The airplane’s empty weight is 98,620 pounds.
