The Learjet 55 represents a pivotal step in the evolution of midsize business aviation. Produced by Learjet under the Bombardier Aerospace brand, this aircraft combined the speed and agility of earlier Lear models with a larger cabin and enhanced passenger comfort. Though no longer in regular charter rotation, the Learjet 55 remains available through JetOptions’ Legacy & Special Charter Fleet by request in select markets.
The Learjet 55 introduced a larger stand-up cabin and retained Lear’s famous climb performance and aerodynamic efficiency. With pressurization, enclosed lavatory, and club seating, this aircraft was a strong competitor in the midsize category for many years.
Introduced in 1979, the Learjet 55 was based on the Learjet 28 and 29 airframes but featured improved range and a more comfortable cabin. It was the first Learjet with winglets and one of the earliest to switch from turbojet to turbofan power, significantly improving fuel efficiency. The aircraft’s success laid the foundation for future upgrades, including the Learjet 55C, 55C/ER, and the next-generation Learjet 60 series.
The Learjet 55 is no longer in production and is not included in JetOptions’ regularly promoted fleet. However, select operators still maintain this model for charter purposes, and it may be available for legacy missions or custom travel needs. JetOptions offers the Learjet 55 upon request as part of our Legacy & Special Charter offerings. This jet can be a good choice for enthusiasts of legacy aircraft, experienced operators, or clients looking for cost-effective options on regional routes with flexible scheduling.
