Citation SII – Legacy Light Jet Charter

The Cessna Citation SII (Super II) is a legacy light jet that offers an upgraded performance platform based on the widely used Citation II. Designed to deliver enhanced climb rates, better high-altitude performance, and greater fuel efficiency, the Citation SII was once a favorite for corporate flight departments and charter operators across North America. Though no longer in mainstream service, this aircraft remains available for private charter by request in select markets.

About the Citation SII

Introduced by Cessna in 1984 as an improved variant of the Citation II, the Citation SII (Model 551) featured aerodynamic refinements, more powerful engines, and upgraded avionics. It was designed to bridge the gap between the original Citation I/II series and the upcoming next generation of midsize aircraft. One of its key advantages was its performance at high-altitude airports, thanks to its powerful JT15D-4B turbofan engines, each producing 2,500 pounds of thrust.

Although production ended in the late 1980s, the SII’s strong climb performance, short runway capability, and economical operating costs continue to make it a viable option for select charter missions.

Cabin Features

The Citation SII typically seats 7 to 8 passengers in a comfortable, functional layout. The cabin includes club-style leather seats, fold-out worktables, and a fully enclosed aft lavatory. While its interior lacks the modern design features of newer light jets, it remains comfortable for regional and short cross-country trips.

  • Cabin Height: 4.8 ft
  • Cabin Width: 4.9 ft
  • Cabin Length: 16 ft
  • Seating: 7–8 passengers
  • Lavatory: Fully enclosed aft lav

Performance and Range

The Citation SII offers a solid mix of range and speed in the light jet category. With a maximum cruise speed of 404 knots (465 mph) and a service ceiling of 43,000 feet, the aircraft provides a smooth ride above commercial traffic and most weather conditions. Its range of 2,300 statute miles (approximately 2,000 NM) allows nonstop travel between many major U.S. city pairs, such as:

  • Miami to Chicago
  • Dallas to Los Angeles
  • Denver to Washington, D.C.
  • Phoenix to Seattle

It also has an impressive climb rate of more than 3,000 feet per minute, getting passengers to altitude quickly and efficiently.

  • Cruise Speed: 404 knots (465 mph)
  • Range: 2,300 miles (2,000 NM)
  • Service Ceiling: 43,000 feet
  • Climb Rate: Over 3,000 ft/min
  • Engines: 2 × Pratt & Whitney JT15D-4B

Legacy Charter Availability

The Citation SII is available through select charter operators in limited markets. It is best suited for clients seeking a cost-effective, high-performing aircraft for short to medium-range missions. While newer light jets offer more modern interiors and technology, the Citation SII remains a dependable solution for certain routes, especially when short runway access or strong climb performance is a factor.

JetOptions offers access to this legacy model upon request. Availability may vary depending on aircraft condition and location.
