SXSW, the annual Music, Film, and Technology festival taking place in Austin, Texas each March is announced as canceled on March 6, 2020, over COVID-19 concerns. This event started in 1987 with a music festival and has grown to include films, comedy, gaming, and interactive technologies.

The music component of SXSW is the largest in the world, with more than 2,000 bands performing over seven days. The film festival is slated for nine days this year, from March 13th to March 21st with more than 100 feature films scheduled annually. SXSW Interactive runs nearly the length of the festival this year, from March 13th to March 20th, 2020.
