European Union Emissions Trading Scheme Sent To Full House

The House Transportation Committee voted last week unanimously and without any objection to send the “European Union Emissions Trading Scheme [EU-ETS] Prohibition Act of 2011” to the full House of Representatives for a vote. H.R.2594 directs the DOT Secretary to prohibit U.S. aircraft operators from participating in EU-ETS and instructs U.S. officials to negotiate or take any action necessary to ensure that U.S. operators are not penalized by the carbon tax. Transportation Committee chairman John Mica (R-Fla.) said there will be an ICAO meeting on EU-ETS next month. EU-ETS is set to take effect January 1.
