WingX: European Business Aviation Flying Flat in First Half

There were 67,311 business aviation flights in Europe last month, and while this was a “seasonal leap” of 9 percent over May, it was still down 0.9 percent from a year ago, according to data released today by business aviation research and consulting firm WingX Advance. “June’s decline completed a negative second quarter and means year-to-date flight activity [in Europe] is 0.4 percent lower than in 2013,” it noted.

U.S.- and foreign-based operators flying aircraft on a charter certificate but conducting private, non-revenue operations to Mexico have been given a reprieve from cabotage rules imposed in April by Mexico’s aviation agency, Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil. The new rules, which are effective retroactively to June 3, “clarify that operators with aircraft listed on a charter certificate are once again allowed to operate those same aircraft to Mexico as private, non-revenue flights,” according to NBAA.

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has become involved in an effort to develop a small executive jet that will offer low cost travel up to 1,300nm (2,400km).

The Israeli company will only confirm the small jet is designed to seat six passengers, and that the basic operational costs will be low. The company is working with an undisclosed partner, and has so far completed the aircraft’s initial design.

Kevin Boardman, who was the aviation director/chief pilot for Elmer’s Glue parent company Berwind Corp. from 1998 until earlier this year, was formally indicted by a grand jury of defrauding his former employer to the tune of at least $2.7 million. According to a release issued yesterday by the Eastern Pennsylvania U.S. Attorney’s Office, Boardman allegedly “devised numerous methods to embezzle money from his employer” between 2006 and last year.

JetTech Gets STC for Garmin GTN 650/750 Installations in CitationJets

Littleton, Colo.-based JetTech received FAA STC approval to install touchscreen GTN 650/750 GPS navcoms in Cessna CitationJets manufactured from 1993 to 1999 (S/Ns 0001 to 0359). The approved STC is for single or dual GTN 650/750 installations and includes Waas approvals and certifies the aircraft for fully autopilot coupled GPS-LPV approaches. JetTech is offering the STC’d data package through authorized Garmin dealers and will include full support through the installation process.
