Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt called on Congress yesterday to pass a “clean” temporary extension of the FAA’s operating authority to avoid airport construction delays and furloughs of approximately 4,000 agency employees beginning Saturday. The addition by House Republicans of cuts to the Essential Air Service program has stalled an extension of FAA programs and funding that would run until September 16. The current extension expires tomorrow at midnight.
