Introduction to the Boeing 737 Max Series
Yesterday, Boeing made headlines with new details about the 737 Max airliner series. In response to inquiries from Aviation International News (AIN), Boeing Business Jets confirmed significant updates to their business jet line-up. The BBJ1, BBJ2, and BBJ3 bizliners are transitioning to the upgraded Max platform, marking a new era in private aviation technology.
Boeing has outlined a phased development approach for commercial airline use for the 737 Max. The 737-8 Max will be developed first, followed by the -9 and -7 models. According to Steve Taylor, President of Boeing Business Jets, “Boeing Business Jets will first market a 737-8 Max—the BBJ2 Max—with initial availability scheduled for 2018.” This will be succeeded by the BBJ3 Max and eventually the BBJ Max. The transition to the Max platform signifies enhancements in range, cabin space, and fuel efficiency, tailored to the needs of VIP travelers.
The BBJ2 Max is anticipated to offer a slightly better range than its predecessor, alongside a 19-foot-longer cabin and increased baggage space. These enhancements make the BBJ2 Max a compelling option in the VIP aircraft market. “We anticipate that the BBJ2 Max will be a very strong seller as a VIP aircraft and will likely capture a larger part of the market than the BBJ2 historically has,” said Taylor. The series benefits from approximately 12-percent improvement in fuel burn, thanks to aerodynamic advancements, new CFM International Leap-1B engines, and updated flight systems.
