At the 2013 European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (EBACE) in Geneva, Switzerland, Boeing Business Jets (BBJ) displayed a BBJ 3 for the first time. The BBJ 3, based on the 737-900ER, was showcased with its custom VIP interiors at Jet Aviation in Basel, Switzerland. Currently available for purchase, the BBJ 3 is unpainted and ready for a new owner to select its livery. This aircraft has a range that exceeds others in its class, able to fly 4,900 nautical miles which is 1,500 nautical miles (3 hours) farther than its direct competitor.
According to Capt. Steve Taylor, president of Boeing Business Jets, the BBJ 3’s range advantage has led to outselling its direct competitor by seven-to-one. Customers favor its great performance for conducting business worldwide. Additionally, the BBJ 3 features a lower cabin altitude, pressurizing the cabin at 6,500 feet compared to 8,000 feet in other business jets. This results in passengers arriving at their destination feeling relaxed and refreshed without jet lag.
The cabin interior of the BBJ 3 is finished in bright, high-gloss sycamore wood with hand-crafted marquetry woodwork in the entrance panel. It includes a large main lounge, a smaller area for staff, a dining room, and a bedroom suite with a queen-sized bed and a bathroom with a shower. Since 1978, Jet Aviation has completed the interiors of two dozen Boeing commercial and private aircraft. The president of Jet Aviation, Dan Clare, looks forward to continued success in providing quality work and craftsmanship to their mutual customers.
The BBJ 3 on display can carry 38 passengers and eight crew members and has a large cargo area that holds 230 pieces of luggage. Seven BBJ 3s have been ordered to date, three of which are in completion and four in service. The next airplane is scheduled to enter service on June 1.
