NBAA and AOPA launched the BARR Legal Defense Fund website to provide financial support for their joint legal battle against the DOT to preserve the Block Aircraft Registration Request (Barr) program, which allows aircraft operators to block their tail number from online flight-tracking services. The groups filed the lawsuit shortly after the DOT published a final rule on June 3 to move forward with plans to dismantle the program and thus begin “broadcasting the aviation movements of citizens and companies.” The DOT intends to fully implement its changes to the program on August 2, despite overwhelming opposition.
