Anticipation Builds for Major Orders at Paris Air Show

Anticipation of a substantial flow of new airliner orders is building as the 2011 edition of the biennial Paris Air Show prepares to open on Monday, June 20. Airbus and Boeing sales teams are battling for at least half a dozen major new contracts, all of them with airlines based in the fast-growing Asian market. Whichever airframer comes out on top in the airshow orders sweepstakes, Boeing likely will steal the spotlight from its European rival by displaying both of its new widebody contenders: the 787 and the 747-8. Other highlights include the Solar Impulse solar-powered experimental aircraft, the Russian Superjet SJ-100 and Eurocopter’s new X3 compound helicopter. On the first day of the 2011 show, HyperMach Aerospace Industries is set to give details of an audacious program to develop a Mach 4 supersonic business jet just a few feet from where a retired Concorde SST is on display.
