Learjet 70 and 75 Get EASA Certification, Brazilian Air Force Buys 6 Embraer Legacy 500s, Bombardier Global 7000 + More BizAv

The Bombardier Learjet 70 and 75, updated variants of the Learjet 40 and 45 with a Garmin G5000 avionics suit, received type certification from the EASA on Friday, the Canadian aircraft manufacturer said. This clears the way for EASA-registered customers to start taking delivery of the new aircraft.

Bombardier Aerospace officially launched the Global 7000 aircraft program four years ago with the goal of designing what it described as “the ultimate” purpose-built large-cabin, ultra long-range business jet—uncompromising in comfort, utility and range. That’s a tall order when you consider that archrival Gulfstream Aerospace is committed to doing no less with its G650ER and whatever may follow. Reasonable people may debate which manufacturer can rightfully claim to have developed “the ultimate,” but I recently had the opportunity to tour a full-scale, fully finished mockup of the Global 7000 and there was plenty of the ‘wow!’ factor.

Sierra Industries announced a new performance upgrade program today for the legacy Cessna 525/CitationJet, which includes the CitationJet, CJ1 and CJ1+. Dubbed Sapphire, the upgrade is billed as a “comprehensive package of modifications that will enhance performance, reliability and comfort.” Some 660 CitationJets, CJ1s and CJ1+s are potential candidates for the Sapphire program.
